Patrizia Netal is a founding partner at KNOETZL and co-heads its International Arbitration Practice Group. With extensive experience as both counsel and arbitrator, she has successfully represented businesses under various arbitration rules in institutional and ad hoc proceedings including those of the ICC, VIAC, DIS, Swiss Rules and UNCITRAL. Her practice focuses on disputes in construction and engineering, energy, post M&A disputes, aerospace, distribution and international sales.
Since 2022, Patrizia serves as a Vice-President of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), having been a board member since 2020.
Beyond her legal practice, Patrizia is a director of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the largest international student competition in the fields of arbitration and commercial law, an event that annually gathers thousands of practitioners and students in Vienna. She also lectures at the Austrian Arbitration Academy of the University of Vienna and ROAP (Remote Oral Advocacy Programme) by DELOS.
Patrizia is co-author of VIAC Handbook Vienna Rules: A Practitioner’s Guide. She contributed to the revisions of the Vienna Rules in 2021, 2018, and 2013. She is also co-author of “Das große Handbuch Wirtschaftsrecht” (Manz Verlag), a handbook for inhouse counsel on commercial law, and co-author of the handbook Third-Party Funding (forthcoming in March 2025, Verlag Österreich). Recognized by various global directories as a leading expert, Patrizia also achieved recognition as a leading arbitration practitioner among the GAR “45 under 45” worldwide. Patrizia is Austria’s steering committee member of the Pledge for Equal Representation in Arbitration.
