With a 40 year background in international, corporate finance and M&A, as lead or specialty counsel in large numbers of cross-border and U.S. domestic transactions in aggregate value (in many cases, individual deal value) of several billion USD, Tim has, over the course of years since the founding of KNOETZL, provided a significant component to the firm’s complex, international, high-stakes, disputes practice. His unique background adds elite strategic analysis, game-changing English language sophistication as required, and a deep understanding of both bright-line and key subtle differences between Austrian law and procedure on one hand and Anglo-American practice and business, on the other, to the significant cases practice of our firm.
In addition to his management responsibilities at KNOETZL, Tim advises clients and KNOETZL lawyers on cross-border and New York law matters and in contentious aspects from international transactions, cross-border financings, the FCPA, data protection regimes, energy, pharmaceuticals, transportation, corporate crisis management and corporate strategic planning.
Prior to moving to Austria in 2013, Tim was a partner and held management positions in U.S. law firms, including on Wall Street, and headed the significant New York and international corporate and finance practices of a major U.S.-based firm with over 1000 lawyers. Tim later acted as a founding corporate partner for the New York office of a major, Washington, D.C.-based international firm and has served in an adjunct capacity in teaching at two prominent U.S. law schools.
In addition to his transactional practice, Tim has acted as outside general counsel to a variety of companies and banks, ranging in size from very large, publicly listed companies to mid-sized ventures. In that connection, Tim has hands-on experience in supervising litigation, asset recovery and strategic legal planning. His industry experience includes infrastructure development, structured financings, public and private companies finance, technology, data protection, pharmaceuticals, banks, biotech, airlines, manufacturing, defense, insurance and traditional and renewable energy. Tim has been a member in good standing of the Bar of New York since 1979 and is admitted to practice before the federal and state courts there.
